Welcome to Wine Worth Keeping—a radical detour from traditional wine collecting.
The old guard insists that cellaring requires an underground limestone vault, elite auction access, and thousands of dollars per bottle. This publication is all about upending that model. I am Tess Drenter, and my posts are built for new generations who thoughtfully choose to keep wine as a cultural practice rather than burdensome investment, proving that formidable, age-worthy collections can thrive in the apartments and homes of everyday people.
How this Registry Works
This space is intentionally organized into two distinct content pillars:
The Practical: Regular, short, highly scannable repository notes featuring incredible bottles priced strictly between $25 and $100. Every post includes our custom Aging Blueprint layout detailing what to buy and how long to tuck it away.
The Historical: Occasional long-form independent scholarship exploring the deep global history of wine, tracking and critiquing how imperial trade networks, colonial laws, and international power dynamics have changed the modern wine economy.
The Curation Rule
Every bottle logged in “The Practical” wine repository shares one non-negotiable metric: High Evolutionary Potential. If I don’t think a wine possesses the fruit concentration and structural elements required to transform and evolve magnificently over time, it will not make the registry.
Behind the Blueprint
This project sits at the intersection of three distinct lenses:
Wine Market Rigor: As a retail wine professional and WSET Level 4 Diploma candidate, I taste continuously to find true hidden value.
Global Political History: Backed by a PhD in international politics, I apply my expertise to challenge Eurocentric narratives and expose the power relations embedded in wine history.
Physical Science: As a high school physics teacher, I strip away the romantic marketing fluff and apply sound scientific reasoning to reconsider wine preservation for everyday drinkers.
You don’t need a luxury estate to build a serious cellar. Subscribe to get regular blueprints, baseline your palate, and start tucking spectacular bottles away on a budget.
